Top 20 malware programs. Conficker is on the 1st place

According to the report published today by Kaspersky Lab,it has been detected over 45 190 of unique harmful, advertising and potentially dangerous programs during last month. This digit practically does not differ from a metrics for March.

In a rating of twenty most widespread harmful programs worm Conficker known also as Downadup and Kido continues to the the leading position. By some estimations, Conficker could infect up to 20 million computers worldwide. The last days this worm has started to form the infected computers in a botnet for distribution of spam emails and spyware.

New trojan blocks access to Windows

Doctor Web company warns about appearance of the new harmful program locking access to the infected computer.

The trojan was named Winlock.19. The program extends through the Internet under the pretext of counterfeit codecs and suggests to enter the special code ostensibly necessary for registration of a counterfeit copy of the operating system of Windows. To receive this code, it is necessary to send the text message from a mobile phone on a paid number.

Malicious program Sality.AO combines dangerous infectious technologies of old viruses with the new technologies routed on reception of financial benefit by roguish way. Comments on Digg.com are used for malware distribution

Cyber-criminals, using the stolen data, place comments on Digg.com with links to video of celebrities. At viewing attempt the free advertising product with the subsequent infection of the computer and the offer of paid “treatment” is loaded.

digg.comExperts of anti-virus laboratory PandaLabs have faced the next example of use of services Web 2.0 for distribution of malware:  a wide-popular public news resource Digg.com (www.digg.com) has been used by cyber-criminals for distribution of a free advertising product with the information on a video game. Criminals left comments on pages with news  at which there were references to video with known people. Examples of such comments include following phrases:

Distribution of Conficker worm decreases

By estimations of the anti-virus companies, the quantity of infections with the sensational net worm actively travelling on the Internet and corporate networks of last 2-3 weeks, has reached 10 million computers. However the last some days speed of distribution of this harmful code has considerably decreased. New mobile trojan infects smartphones

Harmful program Trojan-SMS.Python.Flocker for the first time has been found out last week; for today several updates of it are detected.

Pirated iWork has infected thousands of Macs

Intego company , the developer of security software for Mac OS X, warns about occurrence of the pirated version of office package iWork ‘ 09, containing the Trojan program.

According to Intego, the pirated release of iWork ‘ 09 has been downloaded through file exchange networks at least 20 thousand times. In the course of package installation in the computer registers trojan OSX.Trojan.iServices.A, allocated with the rights of the administrator. After activation the malicious program communicates with the authors and opens a «back door» in system. It allows malefactors to carry out various destructive operations on the computer of a victim. Besides, trojan can load additional components.

Company Intego underlines that the harmful program is not capable to extend independently. Infection occurs only in the event that the owner of “Poppy” himself activates process of installation of the piracy version iWork ‘ 09.


Downadup (Conficker) has infected every 16-th computer

Computer worm Downadup, also known as Conficker and Kido, has infected at least every 16-th computer, running Windows operationg system.

According to Panda Security, six percent of Windows-computers which has been checked up by means of its anti-virus products, have appeared are infected with Downadup. It has been checked up about two millions computers from which more than 110 thousand contained Downadup. Six percent of Windows-computers infected with Downadup is a minimum.

Conficker botnet

Super-botnet which is being built by the worm Conficker, has grown already at least to 3,5 million computers. Thus, this zombie-network in the sizes has surpassed all known till now botnets, including Storm, which, by some estimations, on peak of the development included from 500 thousand to one million computers.

Daily, taking for a basis of a mark of time from public sites like Google and Baidu, the program generates weight of sequences of the symbols similar to domain names. Using this set of the lines, the infected computer tries to contact the servers located on corresponding domains. In practice such domain can be only one — using the same algorithm, owners of a bot-network in advance register, lift on it a server and, thus, supervise all herd of zombies-computers.
